BEASTIE BOYS playing live at De Edenhal in Amsterdam, The Netherlands, on May 21. 1987

Time to reseed some of my old stuff to set my share ratio straight.

The Beastie Boys were performing live together with Run DMC on a double bill for the Deaf Jam Tour.

The Edenhal is an indoor skating hall with terrible acoustics but VPRO Radio recorded and broadcasted it and did a hell of a job !

Here is a part of that concert.

The Beastie Boys were completely stoned out of their minds after a visit to the Bulldog Cafe.

Included in the torrent is a poster of the gig and a copy of a ticket.

Setlist :

1987 03 23 - Cleveland, Public Hall

Beastie Boys - Pass The Mic Down - June 15, 1996, San Francisco, CA & May 14, 1987, Cleveland, OH

This is a cdr I purchased in a Cambridge, MA used record store (Second Coming). The disc itself has print on it

and the cover is crisp, so it could be the original release. Wav created with Roxio Easy Media 8, Flac with Flac

Frontend.

The San Francisco show is from a soundboard recording, A quality. The Cleveland show is a B+ audience recording.

I figured I’d add some classic Beastie stuff. Any demand for NWA in Anaheim in ‘89? Let me know. Peace coast

to coast.

Beastie Boys

Randy’s Rodeo, NJ

City Gardens

Trenton State

In their prime, displaying the intense prowress that was “Check Your Head”. They were admittedly going for a stoney album experience, and the show isn’t much different. Lots of the groovin’, slow-head bobbin’ instrumentals are done here, as well as some gritty rap stabs and a few punkers as well (notable is the faithful rendition of Minor Threat’s “Stand Up”). The hits (”Pass the Mic”, “So Whatcha Want?”, “Gratitude”) are lively, the banter is oddly tossed around, and the intro is one of the strangest ever given.

The source says DSBD, which for 1992 wouldn’t be impossible, but awfully close to improbable, as I find it difficult to believe that either Randy’s Rodeo or Trenton State had the cash to outlay on such an expense at the time. Digital boards in ‘92 easily cost in the 6 figure range and were generally left in the studio. I’m not saying it’s totally impossible, but I seriously doubt it. Maybe it was the Beasties board.

Otherwise, it’s a very clean soundboard and a damn fine mix. But like many straight SBD’s, it needed some work. So I smoothed over the EQ spectrum, comp’d it a bit to get the vocals to blend in better and bring out the music, enhanced a little with the BBE and then L3 maximized. Sounds big, warm, energetic.

Recorded this one way back in the day. My friend had a photo pass and we smuggled my equipment in under her’s.

Never seen the Agora so packed or so wild. That place was filled to capacity.

Some holes in the setlist and possibly some misidentified. Would appreciate help with that.

Since my last Beastie seed was so hot around here, I figured let’s spread some more B-boy love. I really enjoy coming across their boots, they are always a joy to work with as they are rather predictable and easy to fix. The vocals always dominate and the music gets lost, but bringin them back together takes very little effort and makes such an imporvement in the listening experience.

Another fine Rockpalast capture, the “undetermined” source shows very nice integrity in the scope. With little evidence of a video tone I’d say it’s probably a pre-broadcast source. It was clean and primed for the remaster, which has made it bigger, badder…ill’er?

I would also guess that since this source adds up to 74 mintues that the last two songs were cut to make a single CD. Anybody has those other two tracks, you know where to find me. TIA.

Liberated Boot CD-Wonder Boy Records #013

“Glasgow 99″

Another one dug out from the old Boot Box.

This was the first show of the “In the Round”

tour, which took place on a specially configured 360-degree rotating turntable stage and through a circular P.A. designed to literally surround the audience with sound. Don’t know if this

has been on DIME before–the boot CD is tersely entitled

“Glasgow 99″ and is documented on many a BB boot site.

Sound is Very Good, audience is definitely present in the mix. This was originally a Westwood One/MTV broadcast and was

apparently mixed very “live” in an attempt to capture the full

gestalt and craze of the first show of a radical worldwide tour.

Tested with Traders’ Little Helper and confirmed as lossless.

Research confirms that this recording is not of the complete show-they played closer to 30 tunes in the full performance.

After getting ripped off on a $5 Ebay ticket for the Long Beach Arena show I headed down to the Universal to see what was going on. Not much money since I had just come off nearly a whole summer without a home computer so I was spending a fortune going to anything and everything.

When I got near the entrance I could see lots of people just standing around and facing Citywalk. Seemed like early on there were more people standing around trying to get rid of their tickets than actually going in. This one couple tried to offer me a good deal on tickets but I declined since they were under the overhang - a sonic nightmare and the kind of seats I don’t take at any price. Anyway 5 minutes later they came back and just gave me the pair.

I spent a few minutes trying to give that extra away standing next to someone trying to sell his for face value and neither of us were having any luck, though it was funny seeing the realization on his face that he was trying to see a ticket that no one even wants for free!

Real tight security - had my pen confiscated. I told a fellow trader about that and he sent me 2 boxes of pens! I was able to find an empty seat on the balcony. Anyway this sounds really good for a rap show, according to a hardcore collector it was the best show he heard of the tour.

Mixmaster Mike was shown on the video screens arriving in the Universal Studios tram.

Enjoy!

The Beasties were the closers to the second stage for Saturday, and Mainstage closers on Sunday. Saturday’s show was a mix of the punk and instrumentals (and a few rap tracks). The Mainstage show was more straitforward rap show. This is Saturdays performance (I didnt tape Sunday). They are sloppy, yet rippin. The bass riffs are ill, and the punk songs are random and rockin. AFter Sabotage they leave the stage the roadies start breaking stuff down, and the crowd started booking it to the mainstage for Arcade fire. At least 10 mins went by before they returned to the stage for the final 3 songs. I was luckily waiting out the crowd to leave, thus only missed a few seconds of track 17. Enjoy! -Basshead
